Caroline Kirrane from Trinity Business School and the Institute of Directors returns for the next edition of this practical workshop giving participants an introduction to basic finance and accounting principles while demystifying financial concepts for leaders who don't have an accountancy training or a financial background.

The first half of the day will be spent understanding the three important financial statements in a business - the profit and loss account or income statement, the balance sheet or statement of financial position and the cash flow statement. You will learn how to read these statements, interpret them and use them to better understand the performance and risks of the business.

In the second half of the day, we will use quotations from Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway shareholder letters to better understand finance concepts around performance, valuation, accounting and investment. In his 1989 letter Buffett said "The financial statements of a business are like a map of the terrain, but not the terrain itself." This is a day where you can learn to read the map of the business and navigate your way to better business performance.

If you would like to have a better grasp of your numbers and be able to ask the right questions while contributing confidently to financial discussions and decision making, this is the learning opportunity for you.
